Portland, Ore to the Pacific Ocean

Andy Maser checked in with the following:

Hey Everyone!
Next week, a small team of environmental activists, adventurers, and
media professionals are paddling the 130 mile stretch of the Columbia
River from Portland, Ore to the Pacific Ocean. We’re doing the trip
in conjunction with two organizations that provide services to
disabled veterans–the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Team River
Runner.

Team River Runner uses paddling as physical and emotional
therapy for recovering disabled veterans. Portland’s DAV chapter #1
is one of the top chapters in the country, leading the way with
innovative support programs for our returning troops.

The goal is to establish this as an annual 5 day, full service
paddling trip for disabled veterans from Willamette Falls in Portland,
to Ft. Stevens at the mouth of the Columbia River. The event will
double as a fundraising event for Team River Runner and a local river
conservation group, We Love Clean Rivers. Through their ethic,
“Turning Restoration into Recreation,” we hope to benefit both the
Columbia River watershed, and those recovering from injuries sustained
while serving our country.

Our team will begin paddling this Monday, August 31st, and finish our
trip on Saturday, September 5th. We will have Internet access
throughout the week, allowing us to provide comprehensive coverage
throughout the journey.

The plan:
The primary media producers on the journey will be myself and
photographer/adventurer Daniel Fox. Photographer/adventure guide Sam
Drevo is organizing the event
Daniel and I will both be doing Twitter updates throughout the week.
Follow amaser and kitsunekeimou
Daniel and I will be blogging for Outside Magazine and Wend Magazine
Live tracking of the adventure will be made available through SPOT
Adventures
The Century Paddle Facebook Group will be an information hub: http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=century+paddle&init=quick#/

At the end of the journey, I’ll put together a short video to share
through YouTube, Facebook, etc.

We would love for you to help us spread the word about this project!
