Eat, Boat, Relax … Ecuador
Here is a intriguing offer from our friends at Small World Adventures (http://www.smallworldadventures.com/)
Don, Larry and I got together in Salida, CO last week and were reminiscing about last winter which led us directly into a discussion of what each of us was looking forward to the most upon our return to Ecuador, and ultimately about why we all dig Ecuador so much.
Larry is excited about getting back to the simple life—eat, sleep, boat—that he enjoys living so much while in Ecuador. Over the last 16 years he has come darn close to perfecting the paddling Zen lifestyle of getting back to the basics, where his life is centered on kayaking and only the things necessary to sustain that edge their way in (hence the eating and sleeping).
Don can’t wait to paddle one of the many runs that our lodge serves as the take out for: Cosanga, Papallacta, Quijos (the Cheesehouse, Bridge to Bridge, and Bride to Borja sections). There is no way he would rather end a great day of paddling than walking up the steps to our lodge, opening a cold beer and anticipating another one of Lily’s delicious meals. Will she serve lasagna, spiced pork, filet mignon, homemade tiramisu? (Don’t worry for all you vegans or vegetarians out there, Lily is looking out for us too).
Having spent the majority of my summer laid up with various knee surgeries I am mainly just looking forward to paddling again. But, specifically, I can’t wait to base out of the lodge and have more great runs than I can count at my disposal. I love it when the most difficult decision of the day is which river to paddle? Shall it be play boating, river running, or steep creeking…so complicated! Oh, ya, and having fresh fruit and vegetables everyday is also high on my list of things to anticipate in Ecuador.
At any rate, sorry to bore you with our happy hour conversations, but we hope that some of you will be able to come south to Ecuador this winter to enjoy some of our favorite aspects of winter life.
Right now we still have space on 4 trips in November if you are looking for one last gasp of summer before winter sets in full force.
Nov. 8th-16th Class IV+/V-
Nov. 15th-23rd Class IV-
Nov. 22nd-30th Class III
Nov. 22nd-30th Class IV (yep, these last two trips are both during the same week. They are designed for people who paddle at different levels but who want to vacation together).
Of course, we’ve got lots of trips in December, January, and February (Class II through Class V) so if you need a mid-winter break we can help you out there as well.
Enjoy the fall, and we’ll be looking forward to paddling with you on our favorite runs in Ecuador.
Cheers! Darcy, Don, and Larry.
